For example - one moderator was sponsored to go to BoS this past year.

Can we get a few more sponsorships in the coming years assuming that the recipients sufficiently review, provide feedback, discuss, etc?

SE has stated that they are willing to sponsor community members to community related events, so your request is totally doable. However, they're not going to randomly pick a community user to attend a yet-to-be-named event. SE wants us, as a community, to decide which events are important, and which community members should represent us at those events.

If there's a particular event you think would be beneficial for OnStartups community members to attend, start a discussion on meta. If there is sufficient interest from the community (via votes and comments), SE will likely sponsor it.

As a moderator it's my job to bridge the gap between the community and the SE staff. If you can get sufficient interest from the community for a particular sponsorship proposal, I'll be happy to ping the SE staff to get it going.

Great - I think then next year it would be useful to have more than one member go to BoS. I'd love to be that volunteer, but if it is someone else - that's great too. – TimJ Feb 22 '12 at 2:55
