Phase 5 of our cleanup contest is to go through questions tagged to close off-topic questions. This will be very similar to phase 1.

Background

Feedback on my idea/startup/website/name questions have been deemed off-topic for this site. New questions related to these topics are closed, but we still have some old questions lingering on the site that should be closed. We should close them to avoid confusion among our new users that may take these open questions as an indicaton that they are on-topic.

Most of these feedback questions were tagged with , , or . In phase 1 we looked at the and tags. In phase 5 we will finish this off by looking at questions tagged .

Procedure

We need to go through these tags and vote to close the off-topic questions. To make it easier and minimize the need to revisit valid questions, this is how it will work:

I posted an answer to this thread that contains links to the questions tagged with . Pick a question from the list, and perform one of the following actions.

  • If the question has already been closed or deleted, delete the link from the list.
  • If it is a valid on-topic question, delete the link from the list.
  • If the question is off-topic, vote to close and leave the link in the list for others to find.

This phase will last 1 week, starting today and ending on February 26. At the end of this phase all the links should have been deleted from the answer.

Requirements

You need a minimum of 500 rep to have the ability to vote to close questions. For those that have less than 500 rep, you can still participate by leaving comments if you feel a question should be closed as off-topic, and by removing the already closed and deleted threads from the list in the answer below. Removing the closed/deleted threads from the list is actually quite helpful because it helps the higher rep users concentrate on the open questions.

Editing of this list is almost impossible. When I open it for edition it is different (for some reason, probably bug) from what it looks like when displayed. – Ross Feb 20 '12 at 14:25
Last 10 or so a are already closed. – Ross Feb 20 '12 at 15:40
@Ross Regarding the ones that are already closed or deleted, please remove them from the list, so others don't have to revisit them. At the end of this phase all links should be removed from this list, for one reason or another. Re the editing issue, yes, it looks like some threads are displayed with the question title while others are displayed with the URL. I found it easier to start working from the bottom and work my way up, because the bottom threads are displayed with the URL (and I think a lot of them have already been deleted). Use the question number in the URL to guide you. – Zuly Gonzalez Feb 20 '12 at 18:17
@Ross I removed the questions – Christian Feb 20 '12 at 18:27
On my mobile, but I believe the <br> html tag is breaking it (the automatic change to titles instead of urls). It's two spaces to reach a new line. a <br> is not needed. – phwd Feb 20 '12 at 19:58
i have removed the br tags, but it didn't help – Christian Feb 20 '12 at 22:07
Wow, thanks for editing it @Christian! The reason for the <br> tags is that I received an Excel document from SE with the threads of interest (based on our discussion here), and that was the easiest way I could think of to do a simple copy/paste without having to manually edit the answer. I don't know what's preventing the URLs from resolving properly. – Zuly Gonzalez Feb 20 '12 at 23:20

I figured out why some of the URLs are not automatically being converted to titles in the list. It looks like SE has limited this to a max of 40 per post. See source here. Cc @phwd – Zuly Gonzalez Feb 23 '12 at 5:11
